May 30, 2003 Indianapolis student honored for improving campus accessibilityWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Scott Kempf, a senior from Indianapolis majoring in organizational leadership and supervision, has received the 2003 Focus Award for his efforts toward improving accessibility for people with disabilities at Purdue University. Kempf mounted a video recorder on his scooter to point out accessibility problems around campus. He has impaired vision and limited mobility resulting from two brainstem tumors. Tomahawk, a student service organization, also received a Focus Award for its diligence in helping students with disabilities. Tomahawk members often teach vision impaired students how to get to classrooms and other campus locations. Focus Awards are given annually to individuals affiliated with Purdue who have advanced the university's commitment to improving disability accessibility and diversity.
