Scott Kempf, a senior from Indianapolis majoring in organizational leadership and supervision, has received the 2003 Focus Award for his efforts toward improving accessibility for people with disabilities at Purdue University. Kempf mounted a video recorder on his scooter to point out accessibility problems around campus. He has impaired vision and limited mobility resulting from two brainstem tumors. Tomahawk, a student service organization, also received a Focus Award for its diligence in helping students with disabilities. Tomahawk members often teach vision impaired students how to get to classrooms and other campus locations.
