May 30, 2003 Purdue School of Science honors distinguished alumniWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue School of Science recently honored 10 distinguished alumni. Those receiving awards were: Roger L. Berger, professor of statistics at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. He received a doctorate in statistics from Purdue in 1977. Leroy Davis, recently retired from South Carolina State University, where he served as president from 1996 to 2002. He received a doctorate in biological sciences from Purdue in 1979. Arthur Y. Elliott, consultant with Biologics Consulting Group LLC in Alexandria, Va. He received a doctorate in biological sciences from Purdue in 1969. Adel F. Halasa, R&D fellow at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's corporate Research & Development Division. He received a doctorate in chemistry from Purdue in 1964. Michael D, Hays, senior vice president at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Springfield, Mass. He received a master's degree in mathematics from Purdue in 1967. Claire McKinney, a biology teacher at Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Ind. She received a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Purdue in 1990. David Mortara, founder and president of Mortara Instrument, a medical instrumentation company based in Milwaukee, Wis. He received a bachelor's degree in physics from Purdue in 1961. Arlene K. Musser, senior patent counsel for Pfizer Inc. in Groton, Conn. She received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Purdue in 1974. Thomas A. Schroeder, chairman of the Department of Meteorology and director of the Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research at the University of Hawaii. He received a doctorate in earth and atmospheric sciences from Purdue in 1974. Beatrice Yormark, president and COO of Echelon Corp. in San Jose, Calif. She received a master's degree in computer science from Purdue in 1968.
