Purdue Days makes return to Chicago in June

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University is heading back to Chicago on June 13-14 for two special events for friends and alumni.

The Chicago event is part of the ongoing Purdue Days, which is designed to provide an inside glimpse into the university.

The first stop is a gathering for alumni from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, June 13, at Bob Chinn's Crab House, 315 N. LaSalle St. The event includes a free hors d’oeuvres reception and cash bar, with parking across the street for $8.

From 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, Purdue friends can bring their families to the Chicago Field Museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive. The Purdue Varsity Glee Club will serenade guests on the front steps of the Field Museum from 9-9:30 p.m.

More than 22 million specimens will be on display at the natural history museum, while the university will provide interactive booths and displays showcasing various schools, departments and achievements.

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will speak at 7 p.m. about progress on the university's strategic plan, as well as on other highlights and accomplishments this past year.

Guests will have the opportunity to view many exhibits at the museum, including Modern People, Traditional Path: Figurines from Cochiti Pueblo; Trash to Treasure: Salvage Archaeology in the Field Museum’s Backyard; Insects: 105 Years of Collecting; Building Communities: Joliet and Friends of Community Public Art; and Eternal Egypt: Masterworks of Ancient Art from the British Museum.

Purdue's last "road trip" to Chicago was July 20 at Navy Pier. More than 47,000 alumni and supporters of the university are estimated to live in Chicago, Chicago suburbs and surrounding areas.

Future events in the Purdue Days series include:

• Wednesday, Aug. 13: Purdue Day at the Indiana State Fair

• Saturday, Oct. 4: Purdue Homecoming.
