Chef Carl heats up summer cuisine with new classes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Try a new twist on the traditional lunch hour by making a lunch date with Purdue University's special events chef Carl Behnke.

At this summer's Lunch and Learn Series, presented by Purdue's Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Continuing Education Division, aspiring chefs can treat themselves to a delicious learning experience. Along with a light lunch based on the session's theme, Chef Carl will present techniques to help people duplicate these dishes in their own kitchens.

The Lunch and Learn sessions take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the John Purdue Room of Stone Hall. Sessions include: Festive Sandwiches: No Longer Plain and Ordinary on June 20; Summer Specialties: Picnics, Soups, and Salads on June 27; and Desserts: New, Tasty Temptations on July 11.

Behnke, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is chef and instructor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and is involved with all department food courses.

This lunch series, entering its third year, has been popular, so preregistration is required. Each event costs $25 per person, which includes the meal and instruction. For registration and additional information, please contact Lisa Harker at laharker@purdue.edu or (765) 494-2973.
