Purdue graduates to participate in commencement ceremonies

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will award degrees at five campuses and seven Statewide Technology sites throughout Indiana during commencement ceremonies in May.

Ceremonies are scheduled at the West Lafayette campus May 17-18. Approximately 5,600 students - 4,413 of whom are undergraduates - will receive degrees during four ceremonies.

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke or Provost Sally Frost Mason and Phillip A. Waid, president of the Purdue Alumni Association, will address graduates at each ceremony in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music.

The commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the Hall of Music stage. The screen will display a closeup image of each graduate as he or she is congratulated by their deans after receiving the diploma.

Tickets, issued to graduation participants for family and friends, are required for admission to the hall.

The ceremony schedule is:

• Saturday, May 17, 9:30 a.m., Schools of Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, Science and Veterinary Medicine. A class response will be provided by Kristina A. Ludwig, a graduate of the School of Consumer and Family Sciences from Germantown, Tenn.

• Saturday, May 17, 2:30 p.m., Schools of Education and Engineering. A class response will be provided by Kylee K. Bassett, a graduate of the School of Education from Howe, Ind.

• Sunday, May 18, 9:30 a.m., Schools of Management and Technology. A class response will be provided by Jonathan P. Stanner, a graduate of the School of Management from Howe, Ind.

• Sunday, May 18, 2:30 p.m., Schools of Liberal Arts, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences. A class response will be provided by Kari A. Harness-Terzino, a graduate of the School of Liberal Arts from Mill Creek, Ind.

Commencement videos for each school will be available to new graduates, their families and friends. A VHS video costs $20; a DVD costs$25. Postage and handling are an additional $5. Order forms are available at the Purdue box offices and will be available from hall ushers at the ceremonies. The Hall of Music box office will accept order forms before and after each commencement ceremony.

Commencement times and locations at other Purdue campuses are:

• Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Sunday, May 11, 3 p.m., at the RCA Dome. 4,540 degrees will be conferred.

• Purdue North Central, Tuesday, May 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Valparaiso University Chapel and Wednesday, May 21, 1 p.m., at the Westville Correctional Center. A total of 478 degrees will be conferred at the Valparaiso University Chapel, and 33 degrees will be conferred at the Westville Correctional Center.

• Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne,Wednesday, May 14, 7 p.m., at the Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center, where 650 degrees will be conferred.

• Purdue Calumet, Monday, May 12, 6 p.m., at the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville, where 713 degrees will be conferred.

Statewide Technology commencements will be:

• New Albany, Monday, May 12, 6:30 p.m., at the Amphitheater, Indiana University Southeast, where 27 degrees will be conferred.

• South Bend-Elkhart, Tuesday, May 13, 6 p.m., at the Joyce Center, University of Notre Dame, where 31 degrees will be conferred.

• Richmond, Friday, May 16, 6 p.m., at Richmond High School, where 16 degrees will be conferred.

• Anderson-Muncie, Saturday, May 11, 3 p.m., at Warner Auditorium, Anderson University, where 14 degrees will be conferred.

• Columbus/Southeastern Indiana, Sunday, May 11, 7 p.m., at the Columbus High School auditorium, where 26 degrees will be conferred.

• Kokomo, Tuesday, May 13, 1:30 p.m., at the Kelley Center, Indiana University, Kokomo (or at the Havens Auditorium if raining.), where 31 degrees will be conferred.
