Call's out for animal sciences alumni award nominations

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Nominations are now being accepted for the Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Awards. Three awards will be given to Department of Animal Sciences graduates from Purdue University.

"Last year was the first year for this award when we recognized Jeff Luckman, vice president of Smithfield Foods," said Barry Delks, coordinator of career services and alumni relations. "This year we have expanded it to include three categories, early, mid, and lifetime career awards."

An award will be given in each of the following categories. Early Career (five-10 years), Mid-Career (10-20 years) and Lifetime Award (20+ years).

Nominations are due by June 1 and must include a completed nomination form. Forms can be found on the World Wide Web at https://www.ansc.purdue.edu/alumni/index.html. A typed, one-page description of the nominee's accomplishments is also required. This should include how the nominee contributed to the animal science industry, academia, governmental service, or other endeavors related to animal sciences or an affiliated profession as exemplified by leadership accomplishments.

Any person or group affiliated with the Department of Animal Sciences, Purdue or the animal science industry can make a nomination.

All three awards will be presented at the Animal Sciences Reunion on Oct. 4. It will include a plaque and a gift. Recipients will also be expected to give a presentation to the faculty and students on Oct. 3.

"We are very enthused about our many great alumni and look forward to recognizing three award winners at Homecoming this year," said Delks.

The completed nomination form plus a one-page, typed nomination and the nominee's vita or resume, should be mailed to: Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Award Committee, Mark Russell, Department of Animal Sciences, 125 S. Russell Street, Poultry Science Building, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2042.
