April 24, 2003 Statewide Technology makes changes to reduce costs, improve serviceWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The administrative offices of two Purdue University Statewide Technology locations will be consolidated to better utilize resources and to continue serving area industries. Effective July 1 the Lafayette administrative office will merge with the Kokomo location, and the Muncie operation will merge with the Anderson location. In 2002 the Columbus and Versailles offices were consolidated to form the Columbus Southeast Indiana location. "We are continuing to consolidate our administrative structure to better reflect our new vision for the Statewide Technology system that is being embraced by many local communities and industries to help Indiana citizens pursue higher education close to home," said Michael O'Hair, interim associate dean for statewide technology and engagement. "The consolidation will reduce administrative costs and allow continued quality and seamless service to our industrial customers in Lafayette and Muncie." Statewide Technology students will continue taking classes and registering at the Lafayette and Muncie sites, O'Hair said. Through Statewide Technology, students earn associate and bachelor's degrees in fields such as aviation administration technology, engineering technology, computer technology and organizational leadership and supervision. Each site offers a menu of degrees that reflect community needs. In Lafayette, students can earn a certificate, associate or bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and supervision or a certificate and associate's degree in industrial technology. The majority of participating Statewide Technology students are working adults. "We are working to reduce our administrative costs to invest more in the education services of the program," O'Hair said. "The new vision for Statewide Technology includes more bachelor's degrees and graduate courses across the state. We expect the same positive results for these two consolidations that we experienced with the Columbus-Versailles consolidation." There are 358 students enrolled in the Columbus Southeast location. Kokomo, which is currently the second largest hub, has 280 students. Kokomo serves Logansport, Frankfort, Marion and Peru. Currently, there are 180 students enrolled in the Lafayette program. There are 97 and 29 students in the Anderson and Muncie programs, respectively. The other Statewide Technology locations are Indianapolis, New Albany, Richmond, South Bend/Elkhart. There are 2,219 Statewide Technology alumni with associate degrees and 467 alumni with bachelor of science degrees. Program admissions are administered by Purdue's West Lafayette campus. The Statewide Technology program began in Kokomo in 1984, and was preceded by a similar program, Guest Host.
