April 22, 2003 Speaker to discuss how universities can address the impact of warWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A Purdue University alumnus and Jordanian ambassador will speak about current affairs in the Muslim world and Iraq on Friday (4/25).
Muhyieddeen Sh. Touq will present "The Impact of the Iraq War: How Can U.S. Universities Help?" from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 320. The lecture is free and open to the public. Touq, Jordan's ambassador to Austria, will discuss the state of affairs among the United States, Muslim countries and Europe, as well as what academics might do to improve the prospects for the future. As Jordanian ambassador, Touq also is responsible for the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Hungary and the Republic of Slovenia. He has served as a dean at three Arab universities, as well as president of Philadelphia University in Jordan. He also is the permanent representative for Jordan to the United Nations Organizations in Vienna. A well-known author in the Arab world, Touq earned his doctorate in educational psychology in 1972 from Purdue. He will be named a School of Education Distinguished Alumnus with the Award of Distinction in 2003.
