April 21, 2003 IT Distinguished Lecture features medical imaging expert WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Christopher R. Johnson, director of the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah, will present Purdue University's IT Distinguished Lecture at 3:30 p.m. April 30 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Johnson will speak on "Biomedical Computing and Visualization." Johnson's particular interests include inverse and imaging problems, large-scale computational problems in medicine and scientific visualization. He is a leader in the field of applying scientific visualization and computer simulation to problems in medicine, especially in the fields of cardiology and neuroscience. At Utah, Johnson holds faculty appointments in the School of Computing and the departments of Physics and Bioengineering. He received a Young Investigator's (First) Award from the National Institute of Health in 1992 and the National Young Investigator Award and Presidential Faculty Fellow Award from the National Science Foundation in 1994 and 1995, respectively. He received the Presidential Teaching Scholar Award in 1997 and the Utah Governor's Medal for Science and Technology in 1999. Johnson co-founded Visual Influence Inc. and founded the University of Utah Engineering Undergraduate Scholars Program. The IT Distinguished Lectures are sponsored by Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) in cooperation with the Bindley Bioscience Center, the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), the Computing Research Institute (CRI), the Department of Computer Graphics Technology of the School of Technology, the Department of Computer Science, the e-Enterprise Center, the Krannert School of Management and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
