Ron Fosnaugh, Purdue police captain of special services, said a wallet containing the credit cards was stolen from a purse between 11:30 a.m. and noon Tuesday at the Krannert Building. The wallet, which was taken from an unoccupied second-floor office, belonged to a staff member, he said.

Shortly after the theft, several charges were made on a Visa and MasterCard belonging to the victim, according to a police report. All of the charges took place between 12:16 p.m. and 1:32 p.m. at the following locations: Circuit City, Toys 'R Us, Kmart (Lafayette), Best Buy, Super Target and Staples.

The suspect was described as a black female, 30-35 years old, of medium build and 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. She had straight, black hair cropped just above the shoulders. Fosnaugh said she was seen in a tannish brown 2001 Pontiac van with Illinois license plate number 3147110. The van was driven by a black male who was approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Fosnaugh said the suspect faces multiple charges of theft and that the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with additional information or who may have seen someone matching the suspect's description in local store, should contact Detective Sgt. Carrie Costello at (765) 494-8221.
