April 9, 2003 Indiana 4-Hers making a difference through serviceWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. More than 2,500 Indiana 4-H members will promote community service through projects on April 11-13 as part of National Youth Service Day, a program of Youth Service America. National Youth Service Day is a public awareness and education campaign that highlights the contributions youth make to their communities 365 days a year. Carl Broady, Purdue Extension 4-H youth specialist, said he believes service is important for youths. "Community service and service-learning projects are great for youth, for it makes them feel good about themselves and gives them a sense of belonging to their community," Broady said. 4-Hers will participate in community service projects and events, coordinate volunteer recruitment and provide local outreach.
