Latino Cultural Center to open at Purdue University

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An opening ceremony will take place at noon on Friday, April 11, for Purdue University's new Latino Cultural Center.

The center is located at the intersection of Harrison and Sheetz streets in the South Campus Courts complex. Purdue Provost Sally Frost Mason and a Latino leader in Indiana will provide remarks during the event. Refreshments and tours of the center also will be available.

Hansel Monroy, Latino Student Union president, says the center's opening is a "pivotal moment" for Latinos at Purdue.

"This is a student-driven and student-staffed center that will serve the needs of the Latino community at Purdue," Monroy says. "A major goal of the LCC is to serve as a cultural learning center for all students."

Several university officials, staff, faculty and community leaders will be in attendance at the ceremony.
