March 6, 2003 Student from Hammond crowned Miss PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Sara Connolly, a Purdue University graduate student studying veterinary medicine, was crowned Miss Purdue on March 2. Connolly, a resident of Hammond, Ind., competed with 16 other women for the title, $1,100 in scholarship money and a $250 book stipend. She will compete in the Miss Indiana Pageant in Terre Haute, Ind., in June. Connolly earned high talent marks from the judges for her lyrical dance performed to "Cry" by Faith Hill. Judges also praised her platform, "Living and Learning: Encouraging Volunteerism with America's Youth." This was the first pageant in which Connolly had participated.
