Purdue performers put spectacle in 'Stagedoor Spectacular'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Dancers, twirlers, singers, big band jazz, the smoothness of Frank Sinatra and the raw energy of rock will fill "Stagedoor Spectacular," a joint show on Friday, Feb. 21, by Purdue's American Music Review and Boiler Brass Men's Basketball Band.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, is set for 8 p.m. at the Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette.

William Kisinger, who directs both groups, puts together the popular "Stagedoor" show each winter. It not only showcases the two bands, but also features the spring version of the "All-American" Marching Band Auxiliaries. Twirlers, Goldusters and Flag Corps members will perform to such tunes as Michael Jackson's "Bad," and the 1950s classic "The Peppermint Twist."

American Music Review, a big band with singers, leads off the show with tunes made popular by Frank Sinatra, including "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Lady is a Tramp," "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Come Fly With Me."

Highlighting the instrumental selections are Count Basie's "One O'clock Jump," Rodgers and Hart's "Dancing on the Ceiling" and Louis Jordan's "Saturday Night Fish Fry."
