Financial aid application deadline approaching

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University students have only a few more weeks to complete their financial aid paperwork.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form must be filed by March 1 in order for students to be eligible for college, state and university need-based financial aid for the 2003-04 school year.

Joyce Hall, director of financial aid at Purdue, says students will have the best chance at receiving aid if they submit their forms on time.

"If forms are turned in late students will still be considered for the Federal Pell Grant program and loan programs," Hall says. "But to have a chance at more gift assistance, the March 1 deadline must be met. Financial aid is really a first-come, first-served situation."

High school students can pick up forms from their guidance office. Hall also encourages students to file the FAFSA electronically on the Web.

Current college students who have previously been awarded aid should have received renewal FAFSA information from the federal government processing center. College students who have not received prior financial aid can request FAFSA from their school's financial aid office or file electronically.
