Grand Alternative grants available from Dean of Students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Office of the Dean of Students at Purdue University is accepting applications for a total of $6,000 in "mini grants" that will be awarded to student organizations sponsoring Grand Alternative events.

The Grand Alternative is a series of substance-free recreational activities that will take place April 20-27, the week prior to the Grand Prix race. Grant funding is provided by the Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Tippecanoe County.

Bridget Golden, leadership coordinator for the Office of the Dean of Students, says the grants have enabled the Grand Alternative to expand extensively since its beginning five years ago with an alcohol-free party at the Wesley Foundation.

"These 'mini-grants' are used to offset the costs of hosting substance-free events, allowing organizations that would not otherwise be able to host campuswide events to become part of Grand Alternative," Golden says. "Last year there was an overwhelming response of grant applications. We are anticipating an even greater response for this year's event."

Grant applications are available online. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Schleman Hall, Room 250.

Grand Alternative is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, the Student Wellness Office, the Division of Recreational Sports and the Wesley Foundation.
