Purdue police investigate indecent exposure incidents

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police are investigating two reports of indecent exposure that occurred Friday (1/17) night on campus.

According to Ronald J. Fosnaugh, captain of special services, a woman driving through the first level of the north section of the University Street parking garage at about 5:30 p.m., saw a man expose himself as she drove past. She described him as white, wearing a red and gray plaid hooded shirt and blue jeans or dark colored trousers A dark colored scarf covered most of his face.

The second incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. in the hallway outside room B 12 in the Materials and Electrical Engineering Building. A woman told police a man approached her, asked the time and then exposed himself. The woman immediately entered a room where she was attending a meeting.

She described the suspect as white, age 18-20, wearing a dark colored stocking cap and a scarf that covered his face.

Fosnaugh stressed the importance of timely reporting. He said there are more than 200 emergency telephones at locations throughout campus, including in parking garages. "The best thing to do in these kinds of situations is to notify the police immediately," he said. "Any delay in reporting the incident reduces the chance that investigators will locate a suspect."

Anyone with information about either incident may call Purdue police at (765) 494-8221.
