January 17, 2003 Improvisational comedy troupe coming to Purdue WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The improvisational comedy troupe The Second City, which launched the careers of John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris Farley, Tina Fey and Mike Myers, to name a few, will bring their act to Purdue University on Thursday, Jan. 30. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse are $10 for Purdue students and $15 for the general public. They can be purchased at the box office by calling (765) 494-3933. Based in Chicago, The Second City features six comedic actors and a musical accompanist who perform a two-act revue containing sketch comedy, songs and improvisation. On the spot, topical comedy makes each performance unique. Heather Owen, Purdue Student Union Board program adviser, says that when it comes to improvisational comedy, The Second City is second to none. "Instead of being mere spectators, the audience gets a chance to interact with the performers," Owen says. "The spontaneous results are inevitably hilarious. For 'improv' fans, this is a show not to be missed." The performance is sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board.
