Purdue TV production resumes with 13 programs in 2003

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's weekly news and feature magazine television program, "Discover Purdue," returns to the airwaves with its 2003 season.

Each of the 13 scheduled half-hour programs will include a campus news update, feature segments and at least one studio interview. The show will be distributed around the state to at least eight different stations and cable systems. It also can be seen on the World Wide Web.

Presented jointly by the Office of Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) and the Office of University Relations, the program will air weekly through the end of March.

The show's studio co-hosts are Mike Piggott, Purdue's director of community relations, and Brandi Parisi, program director of Purdue's radio station WBAA-FM. Jim Vruggink, director of special projects in university relations, serves as the program's executive producer along with Edward Dunn, producer/director for ITaP.

Vruggink said the start of production for the 2003 season marks the 12th year of the program's current half-hour format. It was launched as "Purdue: A Closer Look" in 1989 as a one-hour live call-in program. The format was revised to its current length and content in 1990.

"The program is geared toward a general audience, but focuses on Purdue's missions of learning, discovery and engagement," he said.

Guests on the first three shows are Purdue President Martin C. Jischke during the first show; John Sautter, vice president for housing and food services, and engineering professor Leah Jamieson in the second show; and aeronautics and astronautics professor Jim Longuski, along with head track coach Lissa Olson in the third show.

In Greater Lafayette, the program can be seen at 3 p.m. every Saturday, starting Jan. 4, on WFYI-TV (Channel 20); and beginning Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. every Tuesday, 5 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays on Insight Communications Cable (Channel 13). On Purdue's West Lafayette campus, the show will start Jan. 6, and will air at noon each Monday and Friday and 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on Purdue Video Channel (Channel 4), the Purdue Channel on Insight Communications (Channel 5) and the University Residences Television Antenna System (Channel 15).
