November 26, 2002 Seminar to address southwestern Indiana's shift to white cornWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The future of the white corn industry will be discussed during the Value-Added Grain Seminar at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center. The seminar will be Dec. 5 and is sponsored by the Gibson County Plot Committee. "We are trying to come up with a value-added white corn crop that can give farmers the varieties to ensure them the best prices for their corn," said Jon Neufelder, Purdue Extension educator in Posey County. Experts on white corn will be at the event to speak and answer questions about the white corn industry. During the first session, Dave Ksaizkiewicz, an employee of Consolidated Grain and Barge Co., will speak on "Identity Preservation and Traceability – From Farm to End Use." Ksaizkiewicz has developed identity preserved programs for the Illinois River System and is working to develop new market opportunities for identity preserved grains in the region. Chris Morley, the senior vice president of Global Risk Management, will give a session titled "Global Outlook on White Corn." Morley is the author of the "Orville Fisher White Corn Report," the only publication that compiles worldwide statistics and prices for white corn. Jeff Nalley, farm broadcaster for WBKR in Owensboro, Ky., will moderate a value-added commodity discussion. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program ends at 1:15 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public.
