Boiler Volunteer Network gears up for food drive

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boiler Volunteer Network wants to replenish the stock at the Food Finders Food Bank by collecting 15,000 pounds of canned goods during the third annual Boilermaker Fall Harvest Food Drive.

The drive will be Thursday (11/14) through Friday, Nov. 22. Members of three campus categories including, departments or offices, student organizations, and residence halls or floors, will compete to see who can collect the greatest number of pounds in canned goods. The top group within each category will receive a prize.

Meghna Patel, BVN graduate assistant, says she hopes to exceed last year's drive, which collected nearly 9,000 pounds of canned goods.

"We are putting in extra effort this year to get more student organizations, residence halls and departments to participate in the drive," Patel says.

Groups who wish to compete can fill out a form at the BVN office in Stewart Center, Room G4, or fax their contact information and collection goal to the BVN at (765) 494-8864 by Monday, (11/11). Forms can be requested by calling the BVN office at (765) 494-8864.

Last year, Food Finders distributed nearly 2.5 million pounds of food, which accounts for approximately 7,400 meals per day. It serves more than 180 non-profit member agencies in 23 Indiana counties.
