Alumni honors

– The School of Health Sciences has named Bill D. Shipp its 2002 distinguished alumnus. Since Shipp received his doctorate in bionucleonics from Purdue in 1972, he has made contributions in many areas of technology development, deployment and commercialization for a wide range of government and industrial clients. He serves as president and laboratory director for the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, where he oversees a staff of more than 6,500 employees and a budget of approximately $1 billion. He was associate laboratory director for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Environmental Technology Division and was responsible for the institutional management of the Argonne National Laboratory and the Ames Laboratory. The Distinguished Alumnus Award is made yearly in honor of John E. Christian, who retired in 1988 as Hovde Distinguished Service Professor of Bionucleonics and Health Sciences after 48 years of service. The award honors a graduate from the area of pharmacy, bionucleonics or health sciences.
