November 14: Pork Interest Group: Designing And Equipping Automatic Sorting Facilities

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Lilly Hall of Life Sciences, Room 3-113, on Purdue's West Lafayette campus. Frank Brummer, owner and president of Farmweld Inc., will be the speaker. Brummer started Farmweld after realizing many of the hog feeders he repaired as a welder were poorly designed. Brummer will speak about his company's new technology which can sort pigs by weight automatically as they cross over electronic scales. The technology's benefits include selecting the pigs packers want, segregating pigs so they can be fed properly according to weight and reducing stress in pigs during sorting. This event is free and open to the public. CONTACT: Allan Schinckel, Purdue professor of animal science, (765) 494-4836, aschinck@purdue.edu.
