October 28, 2002 Purdue School of Pharmacy awards scholarships WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – More than 30 students in the Purdue University School of Pharmacy have received scholarships and awards ranging from $750 to $4,000. Two students received Dean's Scholarships, which award $1,000 for each of the first four semesters. Deans scholars typically rank in the top 5 percent of their high school classes and hold the top SAT/ACT scores of those admitted to the prepharmacy program. Other awards include first-year prepharmacy scholarships, worth $1,000. Recipients of these awards achieved high SAT or ACT scores and a top 15 percent class rank. They also were selected based upon extracurricular activities, leadership experience, work experience, volunteer service and a written essay identifying the most challenging current issue to pharmacists. Other students received Academic Excellence Awards, worth $1,000. Each recipient of this award earned a 4.0 GPA in a prepharmacy of professional pharmacy curriculum. Second-year prepharmacy scholarships, worth $750, also were awarded. These scholarship recipients earned a 3.0 grade point average after their first two semesters. They also were selected based upon an application which outlined their work experience, volunteer service, extracurricular activities and leadership. The application also contained an essay on the role of pharmacists as purveyors of information.
