October 25, 2002 Purdue sponsors commemorative walk/run WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the Jay Severson Walk/Run on Saturday (10/26). The event, sponsored by University Residences, begins at 8 a.m. in front of Wiley Hall, which also serves as the finish line. Participants can run a five-kilometer route or walk one and a half miles. Participants are encouraged to make a $10 entrance donation. Proceeds go to the Purdue Red Ribbon Week Fund, which provides money for education, training and counseling in the prevention of drug use and abuse. The walk/run is held each year to commemorate Severson, who died in 1996 while serving as a counselor in Wiley Residence Hall.
