Student Concert Committee brings back Counting CrowsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The rock band Counting Crows will make a return visit to Purdue University almost five years to the date of their last performance on campus in 1997.This year's concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Elliott Hall of Music. The show is presented by the Student Concert Committee (SCC) in cooperation with Jam Productions. Tickets for Purdue students are $27.50, and tickets for faculty, staff and the general public are $33.50. Student campus on-sale day will be Friday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elliott Hall box office. Students may buy tickets by signing up for an SCC concert ticket time on SSINFO from 8 a.m. Wednesday (8/28) to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. Purdue faculty and staff may sign up online at https://www.convos.purdue.edu beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday (8/28). Students, faculty and staff must bring their campus I.D. when purchasing tickets. A randomized list of ticket buying times for students will be posted on SSINFO at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Faculty and staff information will be posted at the same time on the Convocations Web site. Tickets go on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and at campus box offices beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9. In July Counting Crows released their fourth album, "Hard Candy," featuring the new hit single "American Girls," featuring Sheryl Crow and Ryan Adams. The seven-member band includes front man Adam Duritz, drummer Ben Mize, bassist Matt Malley, keyboardist Charles Gillingham, and guitarists David Immergluck, Dave Vickrey and David Bryson. The group's songwriting style is summed up by the old English verse that was the basis for the band's name: "When you think of the flimsiness of anything you may hang onto in life, you might as well be counting crows." Songs of life, relationships and all human emotion encompass what has come to be expected from the band that has produced such hits as "Mr. Jones," "A Long December" and "Hangin' Around." Counting Crows began to form in 1989 when vocalist Duritz and guitarist Bryson were introduced to musician and eventual band member Immergluck. Counting Crows were signed by DGC Records in 1992. The group's first effort, "August and Everything After," was released in September 1993. The album received rave reviews, peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard charts and sold far beyond platinum status. As testament to the band's following, their second studio album, "Recovering the Satellites," debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. In the years that followed, Counting Crows released a live album, "Across a Wire – Live in New York" in 1998, and a third studio album, "This Desert Life," in 1999.
