Purdue student leaders to set sail for annual retreat

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University President Martin C. Jischke will be one of several guests at the third annual Purdue Student Leaders Retreat.

The retreat will be Wednesday through Friday (8/14-8/16) at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Ind. Approximately 80 student leaders will learn about leadership, collaboration, embracing diversity and being inclusive.

The program will include leadership skills workshops, networking sessions, organization meetings and a town meeting for sharing information and programs. A panel of campus administrators also will convene to update the leaders on current events and answer questions.

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will attend the retreat for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Thursday (8/15) along with several of the university's vice presidents. Susan Komives, author of "Exploring Leadership," will deliver a keynote speech on values at 7 p.m. Wednesday (8/14).

Bridget Williams Golden, leadership coordinator for the Office of the Dean of Students, says the student leaders should find the retreat both fun and informative.

"The retreat will be most beneficial to students who are involved in undergraduate student organizations that plan campuswide programs, provide diversity education, sponsor diversity programs, govern a large segment of the student population or produce a campus publication, since it will foster collaboration between other organizations and administrators at Purdue," Golden says.

The theme for the retreat is "The Leader Ship: Setting a Course for Excellence."
