Purdue veterinarians make house call to Tippecanoe County Fair WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue veterinarians will leave their day jobs at the School of Veterinary Medicine to meet and greet pet owners, discuss a variety of pet health issues and present opportunities for some human-animal interaction. The four-day "house call" at the Tippecanoe County Fair will take place from Monday (7/22) through Thursday (7/25). Each day Purdue veterinary specialists will take turns staffing a booth in the exhibitor tent, which will be located at the south end of the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds. By having a presence at the Tippecanoe County Fair, the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and its specialists at the teaching hospital will provide pet owners and booth visitors first-hand knowledge about animal health care and advances in veterinary medicine. The effort is being aided by the Purdue Office of Community Relations, which organizes Purdue's fair booth. "We like to go into the community to provide animal owners the latest information about preventive medicine – including heath care tips for their pets," says Dr. Lori Corriveau, a companion animal wellness veterinarian who will be at the fair to discuss medical care for traditional pets. The following question-and-answer sessions will take place at the fair: • Pediatric pet care. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (7/22). • Veterinary admissions. 1-4 p.m. Monday (7/22). • Strap on a stethoscope and listen to a dog's heart. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday (7/23). • Medical care for non-traditional pets. 7-9 p.m. Tuesday (7/23). • Geriatric pet care. 7-9 p.m. Wednesday (7/24). • Pet dentistry. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday (7/25). • Horse colic. 4-7 p.m. Thursday (7/25). Future students interested in a career in veterinary medicine also can pick up information about the various educational programs offered by the School of Veterinary Medicine, including the doctor of veterinary medicine degree and the veterinary technology program. "We find that people greatly appreciate any opportunity to ask our specialists about veterinary medical education, animal health care, or even particular animal diseases," says Kevin Doerr, director of public affairs for the School of Veterinary Medicine.
