Non-traditional students receive financial boost from Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Nine Purdue University students who are older-than-average have been awarded Span Plan grants from the Office of the Dean of Students Span Plan Program.

The students are:

• Amy B. Eberhard, a freshman from Delphi, Ind.,

• Norma J, McGinnis, a sophomore organizational and leadership supervision major from West Lafayette, Ind.,

• Brenda June O'Connor, a senior hospitality and tourism management major from West Lafayette, Ind.,

• Michelle Rogers, a freshman from West Lafayette, Ind.,

• Lakisha Geans, a freshman from West Lafayette, Ind.,

• Jayne Flynn, a sophomore liberal arts major from Wabash, Ind.,

• Vicki Sickler, a sophomore organizational leadership and supervision major from Idaville, Ind.,

• Catherine Irene Dilley, a junior communications major from West Lafayette, Ind., and

• Kimberly J. Sawyer, a senior visual communication and design major from Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Three other graduate students received a Cecilia Zissis graduate student grant. The students are:

• Gina M. Niemi of Lafayette, Ind., who is pursuing a master's degree in history,

• Penelope Parker Orr of Beaufort, S.C., who is pursuing a Ph.D. in art education and

• Alison Cook of Salt Lake City, Utah, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in management with a specialization in organizational behavior.

The grants range from $167 to $667.

The Span Plan Program assists and encourages adult non-traditional students currently enrolled at Purdue. It also serves the needs of prospective adult students who wish to attend the university. The program provides academic, career and personal counseling to assist adult students in attaining educational and career goals.
