June 28, 2002 Faculty and staff honors: – Susan Huffman, general manager of Hilltop Apartments at Purdue University, has been elected to the office of vice president for chapter relations and expansion for Alpha Lambda Delta, a national freshman honor society. Huffman, the Purdue chapter adviser for Alpha Lambda Delta, had previously served for two years on the society's national council. – Margaret Taber, who was the first woman professor in the Purdue School of Technology, has received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Cleveland State University. She graduated from Cleveland State in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. Taber, who has a microcomputer laboratory named in her honor, retired from Purdue after teaching for 21 years. She also is a past recipient of the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award from Purdue. – Kate Laskowitz, professor in the Organizational Leadership and Supervision Department at Purdue University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Beijing Foreign Studies University during the 2002-03 academic year. She will lecture on the topics of labor relations and conflict management. The Fulbright Scholar Program, named after the late former U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, sponsors 800 American faculty and professionals to lecture and do research abroad. A similar number of scholars comes to the United States each year, primarily as researchers. The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, with additional funding from participating governments and host institutions. Established in 1946, the program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
