Purdue student selected for 'Ministry in the Mountains' programWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. A Purdue University student was chosen to participate in a unique program designed to help her evaluate the potential for a career in the Catholic church.Julie Skvara, a hospitality and tourism management major from Evansville, Ind., stayed through May 29 at the Franciscan Retreat Center of Mount Saint Francis in Colorado Springs. Her all expenses paid trip was sponsored by the Aquinas Institute of Theology, a Dominican graduate school of theology and ministry based in St. Louis. The trip featured lectures, reflection, prayer, liturgy, faith sharing and "shadowing" of ministers in a Catholic diocese. The program is funded by a $1.5 million grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. to improve the quality of congregational leadership in the Catholic church. Skvara participated in the program with 22 other college students from throughout the United States.
