Purdue Varsity Glee Club to hold summer auditions

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Varsity Glee Club will audition prospective members Monday through Thursday, June 17-20, at the Purdue Musical Organizations' suite in the Elliott Hall of Music.

Auditions, which also will consist of an informational meeting and an individual interview, will begin at 1 p.m. each day. Prospective members are asked to prepare two fully memorized songs of varied style and tempo that are two minutes or less in duration. They also must supply a resume and at least two letters of recommendation. A professional accompanist will be provided, but students who audition are welcome to demonstrate their proficiency on an instrument.

Founded in 1893, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, under the direction of Brian Breed, is the oldest choral music organization still in existence at Purdue University. This all-male group has performed for audiences around the world. The Glee Club has traveled on 10 European tours, as well as several tours to Canada, Mexico, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. The group just concluded a concert tour of China. The Glee Club regularly appears in concert halls across the United States and has been featured entertainment at many prestigious events, including four presidential inaugurations.

Breed says he looks forward to more young men joining the Glee Club and participating in their adventures.

"Each year, PMO is excited to welcome the new talent of the freshmen men for Glee Club auditions," Breed says. "Being a part of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club not only enhances their singing abilities, but creates a whole new individual as we strive for excellence to represent Purdue University as ambassadors of song."

To sign up for an audition, contact PMO at (765) 494-3941 or (800) 893-3041.
