Purdue holds major manufacturing conference

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 30th North American Manufacturing Research Conference, an international gathering of about 250 top experts, will be May 21-24 at Purdue University.

The conference is sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and was organized by a committee of Purdue faculty led by Yung C. Shin, a professor of mechanical engineering, and C. Richard Liu, a professor of industrial engineering.

"This is one of the most prestigious conferences dealing with leading-edge technologies in manufacturing, and Purdue will be the host for the first time," Shin said.

The conference, in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall, will attract top researchers from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and North and South America, who will present 89 technical papers. A reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (5/21) in the East and West Faculty Lounge, Stewart Center. Welcoming remarks will be given 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (5/22) by Purdue Provost Sally Frost Mason and Linda Katehi, dean of the Schools of Engineering. Their remarks will be followed by a keynote speech by John Wall, executive vice president and chief technical officer of Cummins Engine Co.
