May 3, 2002 Purdue clinic stresses the fundamentals of livestock judging WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University is offering its first-ever clinic for current and aspiring beef, swine and sheep judges in the Midwest on May 31 through June 1. The two-day program, Excelling as a County Fair Livestock Judge, will focus on showring etiquette, working with parents, current livestock trends, showmanship contests, show management issues and ethics. Livestock experts from Indiana, Illinois and Texas will lead the sessions and discussions. "The most important aspect for livestock judges to focus on is how they work with the youth and their families during a show," said Clint Rusk, assistant professor in 4-H and animal sciences. "It is important for the judge to place the animals correctly, but it is more important for the show to be a positive learning experience for the 4-H members. This clinic stresses the fundamentals that will make you a well-rounded judge." The clinic will be at Purdue University and runs from May 31 at 1 p.m. until June 1 at 3 p.m. Registration is $50, and the deadline to sign up is May 15. Register, online or get more information.
