April 26, 2002 Theatre student dramas to air on WBAA WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Three radio dramas created by students in the Purdue Theatre Division will air on radio station WBAA in May. WBAA- AM (920) will broadcast "A Theatre in Your Head" from 8-9 p.m. on Friday, May 3. The radio dramas are the product of Theatre 563, an advanced sound design class. Richard K. Thomas, professor of theatre and course instructor, says students wrote the scripts for each project. "Again this year, I am pleased with WBAA's decision to air our students' work," says Thomas. "As theatre artists, all that we create is designed to be enjoyed by an audience, so this completes the students' experience. I'm confident that WBAA listeners will enjoy the radio dramas, and I know that our students appreciate the opportunity to share their work with a larger audience." Listeners will hear: • "500 Large," in which a young gambler challenges the house, and wins big, but finds that staying a winner might be harder than winning in the first place. Tom Falgien, a second year graduate student from West Lafayette, Ind., is the director and producer. He is assisted by Nick Fredriks, a junior from Westfield, Ind., and Andrew Mitchell, a senior from Jeffersonville, Ind. • "Mary and You," which introduces an obsessive Elvis superfan who squares off against a punk-powered, self-mutilating nihilist on the eve of Elvis' death. Joel Zuidhof, a second-year graduate student from Vancouver, B.C., is the director and producer. He is assisted by Evan Middlesworth, a junior from Richmond, Ind., and Mark Jamerson, a junior from Indianapolis. • "Homecoming," a Civil War vignette that pits a devoted Union officer against his very own family and homeland in the deep South during Sherman's March to the Sea. David Swenson, a first-year graduate student from Salt Lake City, Utah, is the director and producer. He is assisted by Ben Keller, a senior from Galveston, Ind., and Ben Lawson, a junior from Columbus, Ind.
