April 26, 2002 Glee Club finale kicks-off concert tour to China WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Varsity Glee Club's End of Season Concert holds special meaning for club members this year, since the Glee Club is using the concert as an inauguration for their international concert tour of China in May. The annual End of Season Concert will be performed at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11 in the Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. The traditional event salutes the group's graduating seniors and highlights Glee Club performances from the past year. This year's seniors are: • Mike Allen, a telecommunications major from Newburgh, Ind. • Paul Larson, a computer graphics technology major from Prospect, Kan. • Matt Broge, an organizational leadership studies major from Lafayette, Ind. • Jeremy Long, a building construction management major from Hammond, Ind. • Jeremy Eldridge, a mechanical engineering technology major from Forest, Ind., • Chris Piano, a computer engineering major from Fort Wayne, Ind. • Chad Gorrell, a food process engineering major from Roanoke, Ind. • Philip Scholl, a biology education major from Connersville, Ind. • Dustin Hopkins, a film studies major from Rossville, Ind., and • Darin Thompson, a computer technology major from Stillwater, Okla. The End of Season Concert also will feature a special performance by the Chinese Student Scholar Association, the largest international student organization in the country. Tickets for the concert, sponsored by Unity Healthcare, are available at the Loeb and Elliott Hall of Music Box Offices by calling (765) 494-3933. Adult tickets are $12; student tickets are $10. After a weekend of commencement performances, the Glee Club will leave for China on May 13. It will visit cities of Beijing, Xian, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and his wife, Patty, will join the group in Hong Kong during the final leg of the tour for a farewell reception with Purdue alumni in China. Purdue Musical Organizations director Brian Breed says the trip promises to be memorable for Glee Club members. "This is a wonderful opportunity for these talented young men to represent Purdue University as ambassadors," Breed says. "This culturally and spiritually rich corner of the world will offer a breathtaking journey that will last a lifetime." Concert stops include The Great Wall, Peking University, the Forbidden City Concert Hall, a Yangtze River cruise ship, the Shanghai Music Hall and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong.
