Purdue faculty to participate in career development forum

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Faculty career development and post-tenure review will be the topics of discussion at an open forum, sponsored by the Purdue University Senate, on Monday (4/29).

Chris Licata, a senior associate with the American Association of Higher Education and associate dean for academic affairs at the Rochester Institute of Technology, will speak at the forum from 3-5 p.m. in the Stewart Center, Room 302.

Licata has studied career development and post-tenure review since 1984. She is the author of one of the first national reports on post-tenure faculty evaluation. She also has published several articles on tenured faculty review and has conducted workshops with more than 75 institutions on the subject of senior faculty review and renewal.

Bill Harper, University Senate Faculty Affairs committee chair, says the idea for the forum came from the Purdue faculty themselves.

"This forum results from our 2001 faculty survey," Harper says. "We are systematically picking issues that appear to warrant further information gathering and possible action. This effort demonstrates that the Purdue faculty is committed to collective and continued self-improvement and to being a positive force in helping Purdue achieve its strategic planning goals."

Sponsoring offices also include the provost and the vice president for human relations, together with the Purdue chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
