Host families needed for Japanese exchange students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's School of Agriculture is seeking host families for 10 Japanese exchange students traveling to Indiana late this summer.

The students will be here approximately four weeks, from early August to early September. They are all undergraduate agriculture students here to learn about Hoosier farming and families.

"We hope that you would view them like a visiting relative," said Prudie Miller, international students and visitors coordinator for International Programs in Agriculture. "Treat them like family and incorporate the students into your normal routine."

Miller said the Japanese students enjoy day-to-day activities, such as going to the grocery store and visiting county and state fairs. "In the past, some of their most memorable activities have been milking cows and riding horses," she said.

All of the Japanese students have English language skills. Host families provide housing and meals. The students bring spending money and have their own health insurance.

Interested families should contact Miller at (765) 494-8458, prudie@purdue.edu. Past host families can be contacted for those who have questions about the experience.
