March 15, 2002 Purdue Theatre professor, student receive honorsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –A Purdue Theatre professor and one of his graduate students were honored at a recent United States Institute for Theatre Technology convention in New Orleans. Professor Richard K. Thomas received the Herb D. Greggs Award, which annually recognizes the outstanding article published in "Theatre Design and Technology" magazine. Thomas's article, "The Function of the Soundscape," was published in the Winter 2001 issue. Ian Hunter, a master's candidate from Salt Lake City, Utah, received the Clear-Com Intercom Systems Sound Achievement Award. The award is part of the USITT Awards for Young Designers and Technicians in the Performing Arts program. The awards bring recognition and support to the recipients, who are just beginning their careers. Winners are nominated by USITT members, and portfolios are reviewed by a panel of experts. USITT is the association of design, production and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry. Established in 1960, USITT is an international organization with headquarters in Syracuse, N.Y., and board members from across the United States and Canada.
