Purdue volunteers to participate in Spring Community Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boiler Volunteer Network invites staff, faculty and students to help with its annual Spring Community Day from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, April 6.

Volunteers will gather in the East and West lounges of the Purdue Memorial Union and spend the day participating in community service projects. Many of the projects include painting, landscaping and clean up.

Event organizer Meghna Patel says she hopes the Purdue community will take advantage of the opportunity to make a difference in Greater Lafayette.

"This is our first attempt to provide the campus with an all-day event in which people will be engaged in community service," Patel says. "Any help would only strengthen our beliefs in service learning."

Organizations to benefit from volunteer services include the Columbian Park Zoo, Indiana Veterans Home, YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter, Wabash Valley Trust, city of West Lafayette, Tippecanoe Child Abuse Prevention Council, Wildcat Wildlife Center and three historic neighborhoods.

To register for Spring Community Day, contact the Boiler Volunteer Network at (765) 494-8864 or bvn@purdue.edu.
