March 8, 2002 Graduate student earns Heath Award WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Recent Purdue graduate and current graduate student Michelle Sweeten of North Manchester, Ind., is the 2001 Maurice E. Heath Student Award winner. Sweeten garnered the honor by demonstrating her interest in forages and livestock. In presenting the award, Keith Johnson, professor of agronomy and forage crops specialist, said Michelle showed her interest by managing Purdue's Pasture Web site for the past two years. Sweeten's husband, Jeremy, won the Heath Award last year. A May 2001 Purdue graduate, he currently is an agronomy graduate student. Michelle Sweeten graduated in December with an agriculture education degree and is now studying for a master's degree in education. In addition to the Heath Award, she recently won the American Grassland Council Essay Contest in her age division. Maurice E. Heath was on the Purdue faculty for many years and had a strong interest in forages. After he retired in the early 1970s, the Indiana Forage Council established two awards in his honor, one for students and one for adults.
