Purdue agronomy recognizes Indiana Farm Family of the Year

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's Department of Agronomy will honor the 2002 Indiana Farm Family of the Year, the Gary Ambriole family of Roanoke.

Gary and his wife, LuAnn, along with their children, Amy, Andy and Ashley, will make a presentation about their grain and worm operation beginning at 2:30 p.m. March 20 in Purdue's Lilly Hall of Life Sciences conference room 2-425. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. The Huntington County family farms 1,800 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat and annually raises 900,000 worms for bait.

"We are excited to recognize the Ambrioles," said Craig Beyrouty, head of Purdue's Department of Agronomy. "This is the second year we have held this recognition, which provides an opportunity for the Purdue community to learn how their work impacts farm families in Indiana. This is one opportunity to bring together researchers with producers to better understand and appreciate the role Purdue plays in enhancing the quality of life throughout the state."

The Indiana Farm Family of the Year award is presented annually by the Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture, Beck's Hybrids and Indiana Agri-News.
