Seminars to focus on estate and business planning

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Cooperative Extension Service is offering seminars on estate and business planning during two area meetings.

The first will be 7-9:30 p.m. March 4 and 6 at the Purdue Extension Office meeting room in Lafayette, Ind. The second will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 8 at the Benton County Country Club in Fowler, Ind. Registration is $20 per person, $5 for a registered person's spouse and $50 for professionals pursuing continuing education credits.

Co-sponsors include the Purdue University Department of Agricultural Economics, the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service offices in Tippecanoe and Benton counties and the Greater Lafayette Community Foundation.

The seminar is intended for individuals, spouses, adult children and professionals who assist in estate and business planning. Continuing education credit is available for insurance agents, lawyers, accountants and certified financial planners.

Extension economist Gerry Harrison will explain the significance of estate and income tax savings features, planning tools and many other topics in these seminars.

The first section of the two-part series includes estate planning fundamentals, and federal gift, estate and income tax laws. The second section includes an explanation of features in new tax laws, considerations and tools for transfer of a family business and alternative forms of business organization.
