February 22, 2002 Purdue performers put spectacle in 'Stagedoor Spectacular' WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tap dancers, twirlers, singers, big band jazz and upbeat pop tunes fill "Stagedoor Spectacular," a joint show by Purdue's American Music Review and Boiler Brass Men's Basketball Band on Friday, March 1. The show is set for 8 p.m. at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Admission is free. William Kisinger, who directs both groups, puts together the popular "Stagedoor" show each March. The event not only showcases the two bands, but also the spring version of the "All-American" Marching Band auxiliaries. Twirlers, goldusters and flag corps members will perform to such tunes as "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Great Balls of Fire." Jessica Piper, a senior majoring in individual and family studies from Muncie, Ind., and Jaime Calvillo, a junior communications major from Muncie, Ind., break from tradition to perform a tap dance duet to Duke Ellington's "Take the A Train." American Music Review, a big band with singers, leads off the show with tunes by Irving Berlin, Kevin Mahogany, Thelonius Monk and others. Two singers with roots in the Greater Lafayette area will be featured. Sara Suppinger, a sophomore from Lafayette, Ind., majoring in liberal arts, sings "Three Little Words," while Hannah Niebrugge, a senior pharmacy major from West Lafayette, Ind., performs "'Round Midnight."
