February 21, 2002 Workshop to focus on Southern Lake Michigan fisheries WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An update on fishing, water levels and fish food sources will highlight the Southern Lake Michigan Regional Fisheries workshop on March 2 at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Headquarters in Porter, Ind. "Before the 2002 fishing and boating season, anglers, charter boat captains and other interested citizens can hear an update on the status and harvest of fish in the Southern Lake Michigan region," said Patrice Charlebois, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant biological resources specialist. The workshop will include experts from the Michigan and Indiana departments of Natural Resources, Illinois-Indiana and Michigan Sea Grant, the Illinois Natural History Survey, Ball State University and the Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab. Topics include Lake Michigan angling, charter boat and research reports from Illinois, Indiana and Michigan waters; recent distribution of Diporeia, an important food source for many native fish; an update on the Chicago waterways dispersal barrier; and concerns related to Lake Michigan water levels. The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., central standard time. The registration cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The fee covers a continental breakfast and lunch.
