February 8, 2002 Purdue Memorial Union painting found WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An oil painting reported missing from the Purdue University Memorial Union Wednesday (2/6) had been removed for repairs by a university employee and not stolen, as was originally believed. The three-by-six foot canvas depicting a 1930s-era Purdue football team during a touchdown drive had been taken from the wall outside the service entrance to the Sweet Shop by a university carpenter who had received a work order to secure the frame. Terry Clayton, assistant director for building services and scheduling in the Memorial Union, said today (Friday, 2/8) that when employees alerted him the painting was missing he notified the Purdue University Police Department, not realizing it had been taken down because of the work order.
