EDITORS: This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next four weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.

EVENTS

• Saturday, Feb. 2. 11:30 a.m. Ag Alumni Fish Fry. Cumberland Place Exhibition Center, 1780 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette. Former U.S. Senator Bob Dole will be the featured speaker as the Fish Fry moves to a new location and a Saturday schedule. Tickets: $15. ** • Saturday, Feb. 9. 11 a.m. Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. Elliott Hall of Music. This year's student teams must build a machine to secure, raise and wave the national flag in at least 20 steps.

• Monday, Feb. 18. 8:30 a.m. Purdue's for Me. Stewart Center. Admissions program designed for students who have been admitted but are still undecided about coming to Purdue, have not yet visited the campus or have last-minute questions about Purdue.

ENTERTAINMENT

• Thursday, Jan. 31. 7 p.m. American StoryFeast. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Three nationally known storytellers – Jon Spelman, Charlotte Blake Alston and Gayle Ross – tell tales drawn from their national heritage. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $7 to $10.

• Friday, Feb. 1. 8 p.m. Underground Swing. Elliott Hall of Music. Swing dance event featuring Purdue's American Music Review, Lab and Concert Jazz bands.

• Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 5 and 6. 7:30 p.m. Stomp. Elliott Hall of Music. This driving blend of movement, rhythm and music is one of the biggest hits in Convos' history, and it is coming back for two encore performances. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $10 to $36.

** • Saturday, Feb. 9. 8 p.m. Evening of Romance. Maize Catering, 625 Columbia St., Lafayette. Purdue Jazz Band plays for listening and dancing in candlelit cabaret atmosphere. Sponsored by Purdue Bands. Tickets $15 at Purdue box office.

• Friday through Sunday, Feb. 15-17 and 22-24. "The Tempest." Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. Purdue Theatre presenting the Shakespeare classic. Tickets: $12 and $14 for the public; $8 and $10 for students and senior citizens.

• Friday, Feb. 15. 8 p.m. "Ragtime." Elliott Hall of Music. Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow and played against a backdrop of this nation's history, "Ragtime" has been called "the musical of a new century." Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets: $12 to $36.

** • Saturday, Feb. 23. 8 p.m. Saturday Nigh Fish Fry. Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $15 to $22.

** • Sunday, Feb. 24. 2:30 p.m. Windworks. Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Concert band music featuring Varsity, Collegiate and University Concert Bands.

** • Sunday, Feb. 24. 3 p.m. National Acrobats of China. Elliott Hall of Music. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $10 to $24.

EXHIBITS

• Feb. 4-22. Purdue Galleries exhibit "The Still Life Project." Ralph G. Beelke Gallery, Creative Arts Building 2. Still life arrangements will be assembled for visitors to study and create their own works, which will then be displayed on the gallery walls in a salon-style exhibition.

• Feb. 4 through March 22. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Serial Thinking" The Zeuxis Group. Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union. Group exhibit, each artist will present multiple still-life images. Opening reception 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.

LECTURES

• Wednesday, Jan. 30. 12:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Noon Lecture and Discussion Series. Stewart Center, Room 313. Michael Simpson, Lafayette area businessman, will speak on "Allach: My Experience with Typhus."

• Friday, Feb. 1. 11:30 a.m. Krannert Executive Forum. Krannert Auditorium, Krannert Building. Breck Hanson, executive vice president of commercial real estate for LaSalle Bank, will speak on "Krannert ... to a B-52 Cockpit ... to a Bank."

• Friday, Feb. 8. 10 a.m. Professional Development Presentation. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Les Parrott III, a professor in clinical psychology at Seattle Pacific University, will speak on "Bringing Out the Best in the People You Work With." This event is free and open to Purdue University administrative and professional staff. Sponsored by the Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee.

** • Friday, Feb. 8. 10:30 a.m. Dean's Pharmacy Executive Forum Lecture Series. Heine Pharmacy Building, Room 164. Marilyn K. Speedie, dean of the College of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota, will speak on "Building Bridges to the Future: A Career in Academia."

• Friday, Feb. 8. 11:30 a.m. Krannert Executive Forum. Krannert Auditorium, Krannert Building. Roger Miller, senior quality adviser of global laboratory operations for Eli Lilly and Co., will speak on "Partner Well, Lead Better."

• Wednesday, Feb. 13. 12:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Noon Lecture and Discussion Series. Liberal Arts and Education Building, Room 2291. Elias Franses, professor of chemical engineering, will speak on "How Did the Jews from Greece Fare During the Holocaust?"

• Friday, Feb. 15. 11:30 a.m. Krannert Executive Forum. Krannert Auditorium, Krannert Building. David Omholt, senior manager for Accenture, will speak on "Fast Tracking with Integrity."

** • Friday, Feb. 15. 10:30 a.m. Dean's Pharmacy Executive Forum Lecture Series. Heine Pharmacy Building, Room 164. Mark Foglesong, executive director of animal health and cephalosporin networks, Eli Lilly and Co., Indianapolis, will speak on "Change Management and Jumbo Shrimp: A Case Study for Implementing Change in the Manufacturing Organization at Eli Lilly and Company."

** • Friday, Feb. 15. 11:30 a.m. Krannert Executive Forum. Krannert Auditorium, Krannert Building. Ronald W.Dollens, president and CEO of Guidant Corp., will speak on "Turbulent Times – What Matters Most Right Now."

** • Thursday, Feb. 27. 12:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Noon Lecture and Discussion Series. Stewart Center, Room 320. Jun Miyamoto, Department of Physics, will speak on "Converting to Judaism: A Personal Journey."

WORKSHOPS

• Wednesday, Jan. 30, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. "Living in an Inclusive Society." Stewart Center, Room 214. The workshop will feature presentations on celebrating diversity, religious diversity, workplace diversity, teaching to diversity and understanding sexual orientation. • Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 11-13. Intern Expo. Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. Purdue Engineering Student Council is sponsoring this job fair.

• Saturday, Feb. 16. 10 a.m. Diversity Workshop. Stewart Center. Sponsored by Student Activities and Organizations and Office of the Dean of Students, the workshop is designed to educate student leaders on the topics of diversity and multicultural programming.
