Purdue Theatre presents school matinees of 'The Tempest'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tickets are available now for special weekday matinee performances of Purdue Theatre's production of "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare.

School matinees will be presented at 11 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 20-21. The performance is two hours long. Tickets cost $5 and are available by calling (765) 494-3084.

Guest artist Mervyn Willis of New York directs the production. The performances are presented as part of Purdue Theatre's educational outreach efforts.

Each student attending the matinee will receive a study guide compiled for the show by Purdue faculty and staff. The guide features historical and biographical information on Shakespeare and the play. Class discussion questions and writing assignments also are included.

"The Tempest" will be presented for the general public in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse Feb. 15-17 and Feb. 22-24. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at campus box offices or by calling (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Tickets for school matinee performances are not available at campus box offices.

"The Tempest" is presented with support from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Indiana Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
