January 17, 2002 Purdue art students showcase work in new exhibit WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Thirteen art students at Purdue University will present their latest works in an exhibit entitled "Subjectivities" on Jan. 22 through Feb. 1 in the Beelke Gallery in Creative Arts Building Two. The gallery will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An opening reception in the gallery will be Friday, Jan. 25, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public The works on display range from landscapes of rural Indiana to small academic figure studies created in Florence, Italy. Student Todd A. Matteson, a descendant of Indian Chief Tecumseh, created vessels that were influenced by Native American works and natural occurrences in the earth and sky. Tim Fuller's digital photographs reveal the beauty of the Indiana shoreline. Student Althea Murphy Price displays luminous color and emotion in her mixed media prints. Kathryn Reeves, professor of art, says the students put tremendous effort into their work. "It is a real privilege to work with students of this caliber and to see the results of their hard work come together in this exhibition," Reeves says. "Each student has a unique vision of the world. Their abilities to sensitively express themselves in visual form are impressive." Other artists whose works are displayed include David M. Allen, Christine Chin, Melanie Hill, Dana Kroos, Jamie Niess, James C. Werner, Joy Blair, Hoi Jin Jung, Lynn Lee and Josh Thompson.
