New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.

EVENTS

• Monday, Jan. 21. 9 a.m. to noon. Affirming the Dream VII: A Day of Service. Volunteers will assist more than 25 non-profit agencies in the Greater Lafayette area and then share a luncheon.

** • Monday, Jan. 21. 7 p.m. Affirming the Dream VII: Acts of Justice. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. David Fankhauser, a white freedom rider during the civil rights movement in the 1960s, will present the keynote address. The program, which pays tribute to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., also will feature performances by the Human RITE Theater, the Purdue Bell Choir and the Black Cultural Center's Jahari Dance Troupe.

** • Saturday, Feb. 2. 11:30 a.m. Ag Alumni Fish Fry. Cumberland Place Exhibition Center, 1780 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette. Former U.S. Senator Bob Dole will be the featured speaker, as the Fish Fry moves to a new location and a Saturday schedule. Tickets: $15. ENTERTAINMENT

• Friday, Jan. 18. Poncho Sanchez Latin Octet. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets $15-$22.

• Friday through Sunday, Jan. 18, 19 and 20. Purdue Jazz Festival. Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. Three-day festival of jazz concerts, clinics and student competitions.

• Thursday, Jan. 24. 7:30 p.m. Violinist Joseph Lin. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $9.

• Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 24, 25 and 26. 8 p.m. Purdue Theatre Festival. Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. The undergraduate student-produced Theatre Festival plays for three evenings. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

• Friday, Jan. 25. 8 p.m. "Spartacus" by the Moscow Grigorovich Ballet. Elliott Hall of Music. The physical prowess and emotive power of some of the best dancers Russia has to offer will provide a backdrop for this classic battle. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $12-$34.

• Thursday, Jan. 31. 7 p.m. American StoryFeast. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Three nationally known storytellers – Jon Spelman, Charlotte Blake Alston and Gayle Ross – tell tales drawn from their national heritage. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $7-$10.

• Friday, Feb. 1. 8 p.m. Underground Swing. Elliott Hall of Music. Swing dance event featuring Purdue's American Music Review, Lab and Concert Jazz bands.

• Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 5 and 6. 7:30 p.m. Stomp. Elliott Hall of Music. This driving blend of movement, rhythm and music is one of the biggest hits in Convos' history, and it is coming back for two encore performances. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $10-$36.

EXHIBITS

• Through Jan. 27. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Sixty Square Inches – 13th Biennial National Small Print Exhibition." Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union. The Galleries' biennial competition of small-scale, contemporary American printmaking.

** • Feb. 4-22. Purdue Galleries exhibit "The Still Life Project." Ralph G. Beelke Gallery, Creative Arts Building 2. Still life arrangements will be assembled for visitors to study and create their own works, which will then be displayed on the gallery walls in a salon-style exhibition.

** • Feb. 4 through March 22. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Serial Thinking" The Zeuxis Group. Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union. Group exhibit, each artist will present multiple still-life images. Opening reception 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.

LECTURES

• Thursday, Jan. 17. 6:30 p.m. Harry G. Leslie Day Dinner. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. Sponsored by the Purdue College Republicans. The dinner will be followed by a presentation by retired Lt. Col. Oliver North at 8 p.m. in Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center.

CONFERENCES

** • Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19 and 20. Purdue Horseman's Conference. Lynn Hall. Conference is aimed at serious horse owners, veterinarians, feed manufacturers and 4-H leaders. The program includes presentations by many Purdue faculty and industry professionals. Emerging diseases, vaccines, horse farm planning and injuries are among topics that will be covered.

• Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28 and 29. Indiana Horticultural Congress. Adam's Mark Hotel, Indianapolis. An annual event sponsored by several Indiana horticultural associations, the Department of Horticulture and the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Office. WORKSHOPS

** • Wednesday, Jan. 30, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. "Living in an Inclusive Society." Room 214, Stewart Center. The workshop will feature presentations on celebrating diversity, religious diversity, workplace diversity, teaching to diversity and understanding sexual orientation. A film on dealing with hate will be shown at noon, followed by a discussion. Registration is required by Jan. 15. Contact Angela Walker at the Diversity Resource Office at (765) 494-7307.

** • Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 11-13. Intern Expo. Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. Purdue Engineering Student Council is sponsoring this job fair.
